My Story

This all started with my own run in with mental health. Back in 2010 I think it was, I got burnt out in high school at the same time that my 2.5 year younger sister crashed mentally. We still don't know much about it all to be honest. She tried taking her life at the age of 15 and got admitted to closed psychiatric care for minors. Then followed over 10 years of going in and out of closed psychiatric care for her with several suicide attempts per year. She was constantly on increasingly stronger antidepressants and got sleep medication to be able to sleep. Self harm was a regular thing and she developed an eating disorder. There were highs and lows, she managed to go backpacking in Europe twice, got to know my kids and accomplished a lot despite her situation.

But on February 23rd 2021, she took her life. The weeks leading up to this, she had said her goodbyes without the rest of us knowing. She had unlocked her phone and computer and her final diary entry was not directed to herself but to us.

All throughout this time, I've had my own ups and downs, at times having sleeping issues and anxiety attacks. They've gotten worse since this happened but it's slowly getting better.

I started Gaming for Mental Health last year when I did a 12h charity stream for the Tim Bergling Foundation and raised $1040 with just 200 subscribers on YouTube. For this year I decided to make it a tradition but also change it up a bit, hence this event. Part of the reason I do it is to keep myself busy throughout the roughest time of the year for me, on top of the whole doing good thing.
